“Jesus, John, and a Neighbor Boy Playing”
Original Mixed Media, 24" x 36"
There is so much history that happens in between verses in the Bible. That fascinates me. These open spaces call us to come with imagination and an adventurous spirit. The last verse in the gospel of John says it so well: “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” I got the idea for this painting from a Sunday school class I taught for many years. The students were four and five-year olds. One day, out of curiosity, I asked the class if God plays. In unison they said, “Yes.” I asked them, “What does God play?” And without skipping a beat they said, “Hide-and-seek!” That answer put a smile on my face for almost a week. So the painting before you is recorded nowhere in the Bible; it is what I suppose He did from time to time as a child playing. I would have loved to have heard His laughter.
