There are so many angles one can take on Noah. I’ve always been amazed that he obediently followed through, start to finish. With the help of his immediate family and his daughter-in-laws, they built a boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high over a period of up to 120 years. I’m sure many thoughts ran through his mind during those years.
A number of years ago when I was teaching a Sunday school class of 4- and 5-year-olds, we were talking about this passage. The point the children kept coming back to was how packed in all the animals were. Sure, it’s a big boat, but bringing on seven of every kind of clean animal and two of every unclean animal makes things a little crowded!
This image shows Noah looking off in the distance for a speck of land or the dove with a sign that the water had receded. A wise man once said, “we cannot discover new lands until we lose sight of the shore.”
