Joseph & Potiphar's Wife

Joseph & Potiphar's Wife

Genesis 39:1-20

It takes mountains of wisdom to do the right thing at the right time, for the right reason. Joseph possessed such wisdom. In this part of Genesis, Joseph has been sold to slave merchants by his jealous brothers. Then he was sold to Potiphar, an officer of the ruling Pharaoh of Egypt. His service soon earned him the highest position in the household. Potiphar's wife became rather infatuated with Joseph and tempted him time upon time to commit adultery with her. When he refused, she accused him of the crime and Joseph was sent to jail. This image shows Joseph running away and leaving a garment that she used for her circumstantial evidence. Eventually God brought Joseph from that prison to a place of great prestige, appointed by Pharaoh himself.
