Daniel 4:28-37

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was taking a walk on the roof of his royal palace. He looked around and was rather proud of himself saying, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” Before he could get another word out, God put His two cents in, reminding Nebuchadnezzar of the dream Daniel had just recently interpreted, and that the reality of that interpretation is now upon him. He finds his authority taken away, and he is driven away from the people. To make things worse, Nebuchadnezzar is living out in the woods eating grass like a cow, continually being drenched by the dew of heaven so that his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like that of a bird.

His sanity and his kingdom were eventually restored to him when he came to the realization that the God of Israel is in control of everything and does what He pleases, humbling those who walk in pride.

This image shows Nebuchadnezzar coming up out of the foxhole he has made for himself. The face was primarily inspired from one of my friend’s laughter. I’ve heard my friend laugh for years; then one day it dawned on me that this might have been a similar sound these poor creatures of the woods heard when Nebuchadnezzar moved into the neighborhood.
